Payload Data Segment Systems
VEGA has an extensive record in developing and maintaining
Payload or Image Data segments. Our customer list includes
ESA/ESRIN, CNES, Astrium, European Union Satellite Centre
(previously WEUSC).
VEGA has the capability to deliver full end-to-end solutions for
Payload Ground Segments, as well as deliver specific
solutions. We are largely involved in the early phases of the
payload ground segment architecture for GMES, and are involved in
the complex Image Ground System for the Venμs Programme being run
for CNES.
Here are some examples of our expertise in Payload Data
Segments:
Venμs Image Ground Segment: VEGA is Prime
contractor for the development of the Venμs Image Processing
system, part of the Scientific Mission Image Ground Segment for the
Venμs mission. VEGA is responsible for the development of the Level
1 processing chain and for the integration and validation of the
Level 2 and Level 3 processing chains.
ADM Aeolus PDS: VEGA’s responsibilities include
technical and project management and VEGA will perform end-to-end
acceptance tests for the whole system.
ALOS Data European Node Data Segment (ADEN):
VEGA is prime contractor, responsible for Payload Data Segment
(PDS) of the ALOS Data European Node (ADEN). ADEN is the
infrastructure necessary to support ALOS, the Japanese Advanced
Land Observing Satellite, in Europe, Africa and Middle East region,
which is developed and operated under ESA responsibility.
EOLI: VEGA is responsible for the development
and maintenance of EOLI. EOLI is an on-line shopping tool developed
for ESA/ESRIN that allows a user to search catalogues of
multi-mission and multi-instrument EO data, through a simple-to-use
graphical interface.
GMES Sentinel-2 Products and Algorithm
Definition: The GMES Sentinel-2 Products and Algorithm
Definition contract for the definition of the Sentinel-2 Level 2
and Level 3 data products and the development, implementation and
testing of a processor prototype was awarded to VEGA. The project
focuses on operational products that will be produced by the GMES
PDGS to answer the needs of the end-users.
SeaShark: VEGA developed the ESA operational
Payload Data Processing Systems for the NOAA/AVHRR and SeaWiFS
missions, including the Level 1b processor for AVHRR. As part of
our commitment to supporting ongoing maintenance and evolution of
this PDS, VEGA was engaged in re-engineering the SeaShark processor
for integration with the generic Multi-mission Facility
Infrastructure, including the Processor System Management.
Maintenance and Operations of the Earth Observation
Payload Data Systems - Data Processing and Quality
Control: Since August 2005, VEGA has had several
responsibilities under a Frame Contract led by SERCO with ESRIN. In
particular, we are responsible for the quality control service on
the data products generated by the Advanced Along Track Scanning
Radiometer instrument on ENVISAT.
