Satellite Navigation

Satellite Navigation

Originally conceived to support military applications, satellite navigation has had a major impact on our daily lives and the way we do business across the globe.

VEGA has been involved in the design and development of Europe’s global navigation satellite system since the very early system studies in 1997.

We are working in many areas of the Galileo development including operations engineering, project support and simulations development. VEGA is also closely involved with supporting the GIOVE-A mission, the first test satellite to be launched. Our satellite navigation engineers are currently based in Rome, Toulouse and ESTEC, providing consultancy to the Galileo programme, along with significant development projects currently ongoing both at Welwyn Garden City and Darmstadt.

Whilst we continue to play an active role in the implementation of Galileo, our attention is now also firmly on supporting the development of applications in markets such as aviation, transport and logistics. We are shareholders in the Centre for Satellite Navigation in Hessen  (CESAH) and are participating in a number of R&D programmes, aimed at stimulating new service and product development.
